ITS Service Status Report

Service Degradation — Resolved

AWS Performance Degradation

Services Affected: Amazon Web Services at U-M

Start Time: 03/02/2018 4:00 pm

Service Restored: 03/09/2018 1:35 am

Issue Symptoms: Degradation

03/07 - 07:00

Traffic to/from AWS has been rerouted around the problematic link as it is repaired. Speed and reliability to/from AWS should be back to normal levels as traffic is currently running across our separate, stable 100G commodity internet links.

This status page will be updated/closed when the original link issue has been resolved.

Some users are reporting lower than expected transfer speeds/packet loss on traffic destined for AWS from campus. Traffic from AWS back to campus does not seem to be impacted.

We have contacted Amazon and Internet2 to help diagnose the source of the issue.

Technical Details

Service Type: Production

Comments:

Resolved in 142089.
UMnet has identified a possible source of the issue and has escalated for a response from the vendor.

We also continue to work with Internet2 and Amazon on the issue.

The maintenance being performed on the Internet2 direct connection at 2 PM should hopefully resolve the issue.

Update 3/6/2018 3:23 PM - Customers are now seeing their speeds return to normal and reporting no packet loss. We will continue to monitor the status of this.
