ITS Service Status Report

Scheduled Maintenance — Resolved

AFS database server move

Services Affected: AFS

Start Time: 08/24/2019 11:00 pm

Maintenance Completed: 08/25/2019 3:35 am

Issue Symptoms: Outage

  • What we are doing: ITS is relocating the network that contains the AFS ptserver and vlserver functions for the cell to MACC and will then host those functions on new virtual machines.
  • Why we are doing this: Old physical hardware is at end of life. Replacing with VMs is more cost effective. Moving IPs which causes an AFS outage during the move is preferred to updating the hard coded AFS CellServDB information on all of the clients to use new IPs.
  • Who will be impacted: AFS will not be available when ptserver and vlserver are offline. The MFile web app, the stats server pool, the login server pool, the web servers, and any other computer that mounts AFS will not be able to read and write to AFS.
  • Who will not be impacted: Web sites that are not hosted from AFS will continue to function.
