Microsoft Software Activation Issues

Thurs 10/7/2021 12:00pm No updates. Waiting to hear back on the support case opened with the vendor.

Weds 10/6/2021 5:00pm : After applying a workaround suggested by the vendor we were able to resolve reported problems. We have also opened a support case with the vendor to review our KMS server configuration.

Weds 10/6/2021 8:00am : We are still monitoring the logs from the Microsoft Key Management Servers to see if there are still software product keys that need to be updated.

Tues 10/5/2021 7:35pm : Updated Microsoft Office license keys were added to the KMS servers and that eliminated errors seen at one departmental Virtual Desktop site. We will continue to monitor the logs for error messages from other products.

Users of Microsoft software may see pop-up windows when starting products like MS Office. The message will say something like, "This copy of Microsoft Office is not activated. This copy of Microsoft Office is designed for corporate or institutional customers. Connect your computer to your corporate network to complete activation"

When this happens the user cannot make or save changes to documents.

Who is Impacted? Some users of Microsoft software.

Comments:

ITS Systems Support Windows will be rebooting the KMS servers one at a time. These servers are load-balanced and this will not impact the service.

Weds 10/6/21 at 8:00am : Software keys for Microsoft Office were updated in conjunction with last night's reboots. This seemed to eliminate the reproduceable errors on some virtual desktops.
