ITS Service Status Report

The IAM tean will be making a change to the connector software that sends user data to Canvas from MCommunity. We are adding the ability to populate a Canvas attribute known as "Sortable Name." This change will use name parts from MCommunity to create a more properly sorted list of users in a class, especially for surnames which have spaces in them. The current sorting option in Canvas is less clear about what the proper name parts are, leading to incorrect or unexpected sorting results.

Once the connector has been updated, the IAM team will, at a later date, send active Canvas users' data through the connector to populate Sortable Name in Canvas. The new attribute will NOT be populated in Canvas as a direct part of the maintenance on Saturday night.

There will be a brief (less than five minute) interruption in data updates being sent to Canvas from MCommunity during the connector update. No data changes will be lost; they will queue and send to Canvas once the connector is re-enabled. There will be no user-facing interruption or change in the access to, or use of, Canvas by students or faculty while this change is being made.
